Catholic Hospice Medical Director and Associate Medical Director Trailblazing in the Community

Catholic Hospice is fortunate to have the medical expertise and visionary leadership of our Medical Director, Dr. Tracy Romanello and Associate Medical Director, Dr. Angel Sanchez. Dr. Romanello and Dr. Sanchez have truly been trailblazing in the community expanding the footprint of Catholic Hospice.

On January 30, 2025, Dr. Sanchez, Olimpia Romero (Regional Director of Business Development), and Leonel Marrero (Account Executive), met with staff from Shoreside Health and Rehabilitation and OnyxHealth, which included their Vice President of Business, Dr. Orestes Mederos (Medical Director), Facility Administrator, Director of Nursing, and Assistant Director of Nursing. Our Catholic Hospice team discussed ways to strengthen our partnership with OnyxHealth. OnyxHealth boasts a close-knit network of skilled nursing facilities across the South Florida region providing premium short term, rehabilitative, and long-term care services.

Then, on February 1, 2025, Dr. Sanchez, Olimpia Romero, and Andalys Espinosa (Account Executive) presented on Catholic Hospice and Palliative Care Services to more than 20 physicians of Cano Health and Cano at Home. Some physicians attended in-person, while others were virtual. Dr. Sanchez gave an introduction to the Medicare Hospice Benefit and discussed Hospice Eligibility with Cano providers.

While Dr. Sanchez has been busy educating medical staff, Dr. Romanello was doing her own trailblazing meeting with providers at Memorial West with members of our Catholic Hospice team, such as Dr. Malika Rahaman (Hospice Physician), Barbara Warger (Account Executive), and Jorge Araujo Reyes (Account Executive). Discussions focused on safer and smoother transitions of care for patients and families.
