Catholic Hospice Hosts 2nd Camp Erin Family Camp for South Florida Community

June 21, 2024

On Saturday, June 15, 2024, Camp Erin South Florida hosted another successful one-day Family Camp at Tree Tops Park in Davie! This was our second family camp that we hosted supporting youth and their families in our South Florida community who are grieving the death of someone significant to them.

The Camp Erin Family Camp supports youth (ages 6 to 17 years old) and their families who are grieving the death of a significant person in their lives. The camp day was filled with activities for both the family as well as breakout groups where the adults and youth could connect with peers their age to learn about grief and coping skills to manage their grief. In the afternoon, Humane Society of Broward brought a team of therapy dogs to provide pet therapy to our campers. The camp started and ended with a remembrance ceremony to give opportunities for our campers to memorialize their deceased loved ones.

New Bereavement Camp Manager, Edmound Davis, led our Camp Erin South Florida Team in supporting 12 camper families, and in total, impacted the lives of 30 campers (16 youths and 14 adult campers). Edmound was supported by our Camp Erin team and volunteers from our Catholic Hospice staff and students from Nova Southeastern University’s Occupational Therapy and Marriage and Family Therapy programs.

Thank you to our Camp Erin team, our camper families, our volunteers, Catholic Hospice staff, Humane Society of Broward, Eluna, and New York Life for another successful Camp Erin Family Camp!

We look forward to our next camp on October 25-27, 2024 at Camp Owaissa Bauer in Homestead! Visit our website at www.camperinsouthflorida.org to download our camp flyer and camper application or contact our team at CampErin@catholichospice.org or (954) 944-2709 for more information!
